Here we come Truckers! we're there for you. Many of our customers calling our help desk enquiring about the 2290 Tax Filing for the new tax year July 2021 through June 2022. We would have it opened only in the first week of June but this time around since we had a good volume of ask we opened for Pre Filing now. However we encourage your to start with your 2290 truck tax reporting for the July 2021 period. The vehicle taxes would be $550 for a truck that weights 75,000 pounds and above, supposed to start using it from July onwards. This 2290 taxes are paid in advance, in full with the IRS between July 2021 and August 2021. For all these vehicles August 31 is the actual due date.
Tax Exempt Vehicles or Suspended Vehicles:
The heavy vehicles that is expected to be used under the 5,000 miles exempt limit on a public highway through the tax period would be termed as Tax Exempt Vehicles. This applies for Forest or Logging Vehicle that is expected to be used well with in 7,500 miles on a public highway.
Tax Exempt vehicles will not owe taxes but this exempt status has to be reported with the IRS along with the Vehicle Identification Number and Business Name.
Prior Year Low Mileage Claim
If you vehicle taxes was paid in full for a previous tax period and the vehicle wasn't fully utilized then you owe a refund claim under Low Mileage Used vehicle category. The minimal miles on the highways would be 5,000 miles for a normal vehicle and 7500 miles for a logging (forest) vehicle.
You qualify for a refund on this low mileage use and this can be adjusted against the new year taxes. Tax2290 supports you to have all these claims made and adjusted towards taxes in the application. Sometime the vehicles was pulled out and destroyed then it is used below the minimum miles limit it qualify for a refund credit.
Refund on Sold Vehicle
When you owe back a 2290 tax refund on a sold vehicle you can claim that in the Form 2290 while reporting taxes for another vehicle and adjust the claim against your taxes. However you need to details the buyers information and the IRS is asking for these details in the tax return to make a note of your sales and buyer.

You can also choose between EFTPS and Card Payment, for which you need to wait until the 2290 return in accepted by the IRS and then schedule 1 payment using EFTPS or pay using your card.
The one last option is using Check drafted in the name of IRS and sending it to the IRS by mail along with a copy of your Stamped Schedule 1 copy to easily reference.
